Our canine brigade deploys certified handlers paired with professional security dogs (Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd, Rottweiler) for missions of deterrent surveillance, rounds, detection and graduated intervention. Particularly effective for large sites, events and industrial zones in Geneva, Valais and throughout French-speaking Switzerland.

When to call on a canine brigade?

Typical use cases:

  • Large construction sites: covering wide areas, long-range detection thanks to the dog's smell and hearing
  • Logistics zones: night-time warehouses, protection of copper stocks and equipment
  • Events: concerts, night markets, sporting events, trade shows
  • Night rounds: closed shopping centres, car parks, business parks
  • Ad-hoc missions: enhanced alarm verification, exceptional setups

Training and certification

Becoming a handler in Switzerland requires:

  • Cantonal certificate of competence (theory + practice)
  • Clean criminal record
  • Annual continuing education
  • Enhanced professional liability insurance (damage caused by the dog)
  • 1–2 years of field experience before autonomous deployment

SGP dogs are sourced from certified kennels and trained for 18–24 months before going operational.

Swiss legal framework

The use of dogs in private security is governed by:

  • French-speaking concordat on security companies (CES)
  • Cantonal licence with a service-dog endorsement
  • Art. 56 CO (keeper liability)
  • Mandatory information ("Guard dog on duty" signage)
  • No offensive use (only legitimate self-defence or on command)

Indicative pricing

  • Single canine round: 120–180 CHF
  • Handler 8h event: 450–650 CHF
  • Full construction-site night: 550–850 CHF
  • Monthly contract, rounds (4 passes/night): 1,800–3,500 CHF

Frequently asked questions

Which dog breeds does SGP use?

Mainly Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd and Rottweiler. Breeds chosen for their emotional balance, obedience and graduated intervention ability. Each dog is trained and certified.

Are the dogs dangerous to the public?

No. Our dogs are trained in de-escalation and respond strictly to their handler's commands. They only intervene in case of a confirmed threat validated by the handler.

When is a canine brigade preferable to a lone officer?

For large sites (construction, logistics zones), high-risk events, extended night rounds. The dog detects much further than a human (smell, hearing) and covers large areas efficiently.

Are handlers certified?

Yes — cantonal training and certification are required. Annual theory and practical exams for the human-dog team. Our handlers have at least 2 years of experience before autonomous deployment.

Are your canine interventions insured?

Fully. SGP holds professional liability insurance covering canine interventions up to 5 million CHF per claim.

Can a handler be booked for a one-off event?

Yes — we offer event-based missions (concerts, night markets, sporting events). Per-mission pricing, free quote on request.
